Obesity: A Government Concern OR a Family Concern?

Just thought I would suggest a few thoughts on the comments made in this article. However, the biggest question is>>

"Should we allow the government to intervene on an issue that is of National concern to ALL..ie the "Battle of the Bulge"

So do check out some thoughts below in blue on what I feel is a Family Concern and NOT a Government Concern.

Obese boy to return home Saturday after dropping 50 pounds

A Juvenile Court judge agreed today that a boy removed from his family for being obese can return.
CLEVELAND, Ohio -- The Cleveland Heights boy who was taken from his family and placed in foster care because of his weight will return home Saturday, 50 pounds lighter than when he left.
The boy, who turned 9 since he was pulled from his home in October, has slimmed down to 167 pounds while staying with his uncle outside of Columbus.
**Is 50 pounds now considered the threshold to return the child by those in this local government??

Guardian ad litem John Lawson said that at one point, the boy weighed 217 pounds and faced a host of heath-related issues. The decision to allow him to return home was made at a hearing Monday at the Cuyahoga County Juvenile Court.
**One can't deny that being over weight can have other health related issues?? But at the same time, is removing the child the answer??

**Even Thomas Jefferson, very knowledgeable of our civilization history, made this statement:
"I predict future happiness for Americans if they can prevent the government from wasting the labors of the people under the pretense of taking care of them."
Thomas Jefferson

"There was a mutual agreement among everyone that the boy should return home as soon as possible," said Lawson, who noted that The Cuyahoga County Department of Children and Family Services wanted to delay the boy's return until the end of March. "Judge David Stucki, a visiting judge from Stark County, agreed. He'll return to his mother on Saturday."
**Too many, the judge is considered "The Other Parent". Do you suppose perhaps the judge even thought that removing the child was NOT the best solution?

When the boy returns to school, he'll look like a different child.
**Hopefully this will be a Positive Outcome for the child? Self esteem is a powerful ally. We are who we are.. And all of us need to be proud of ourselves for who we are and NOT what other people Think we should be.

"He has made remarkable progress with his weight issues while living with an uncle in Fairfield County near Columbus since January," Lawson said. "He has learned a lot about nutrition, portion sizes, exercise and reading labels. He now knows the value of eating vegetables, grains and proteins as part of a weight-loss regimen. He has been exercising and will continue."
**Prime example of how Family can help Family. For example, I am a granpa in a multi-generational family, and the daily sharing of my self with my grand kids, now teenagers, and there mom has been very rewarding.. A few events of my daughter could have had the Government agency involved in our lives.. But I am thankful every day that they Did Not get involved.

**Unfortunately for many families over at least the past 1/2 century there has been a breakdown of the interrelationship of many of Our Families. Not to mention, I am a Firm Believer that the answers are within our families and NOT those who deem themselves as experts.

The Cuyahoga County Department of Children and Family Services on Sept. 13 asked Juvenile Court to remove the boy from his mother's home after unsuccessfully working with the boy's family for almost a year to reduce his weight.
**I can merely pose the question: "What did the agency do "working with the boy's family", that the Uncle did as part of the family?

Lawyers for the mother, a substitute elementary school teacher who is also taking vocational school classes, earlier said that the county overreached in this case. The county argued that medical conditions the boy is at risk for -- but doesn't yet have -- posed an imminent danger to his health.
**The term "imminent danger" is critical to the removal of a child from their family. Many don't realize that too many children are removed based on the Philosophy  of many in the agency..ie "If it could have happened, it probably did."

Why, as a Family Advocate for over a decade, being so critical of the above thought>> "If it could have happened, it probably did." Simple answer. This same quote was told to me by 2 higher ups in the agency in my Life Journey.

So for those that truly want to do their home work, here is the State Summaries defining abuse. Suggest starting with : Definitions.

The mother's lawyers questioned whether the emotional impact of being removed from his family, school and friends was also considered.
**I sincerely hope I have given enough information that many may question the "emotional impact of being removed"?  After all, isn't our emotional psyche, many times, part of our eating habits???

He was initially placed in a foster home in Shaker Heights and was transferred to his uncle's home in early January.
**I can only say Thank You Uncle for miraculously assisting your relative with their weight challenge.

**Finally, what should be even more concerning is:
This is a Prime Example of how the Philosophy of Eugenics is being used against Individuals by using the Power of the Agency to Target individuals and/or Groups in our society.

Don't know what "Eugenics" is??? Check Out this Blog Post:

Eugenics is this Right or Wrong for Our Families??
