The Fostering Story, love is?

Just thought I would share this complete blog post below "The Foster Story, love is?"

So many times, I have stated that the answers are within those who are closest to Our Children and not those that consider themselves "Experts" Those closest to our children include Natural Parents, Relatives, Foster Care Givers, etc. And now the so many Foster Children, who have aged out of the system.

There were many signs that the Foster Care Program was not working in the mid to late 90's. But unfortunately, it has taken until now, in these economic times to make people aware that there is definately something very wrong.
After you read the blog below, compare the advice given in this blog http://www.examiner.com/foster-care-adoption-in-national/susan-cornbluth as  an Adjunct Associate Psychology Professor at Temple University

The Foster Story, love is?

Recently people have been inquiring of this examiner what the real story of fostering is??

There is only one way we can answer a question like that, as we always do, with honesty and integrity. Fostering is the most rewarding experience that you will ever go through.
  • The next question these same people ask is why we are against it?
Simple answer; we are not against it, in fact, quite the opposite. In our article, Fostering is, Part 1 / Part 2, we explain the depths of fostering as in this quote;
A foster parents view;Life is not about the number of breaths you take, but the number of moments that leave you breathless!"
Breathless moments like seeing a child reunited with his/her biological parent, a parent through which you have assisted in changing lives for the good.

Looking into a child’s eyes; quote from our “Windows of the soul” article. Part 1 / Part 2 / Part 3

Remember this; there are two moments in fostering that will always remain in your mind and heart; no one can ever take these moments from you as a foster parent.

  • The first is when you look into the windows of the soul, the eyes of this small little child and see heartache, pain, sorrow and sadness all this in someone so little, you see a soul lost inside.
  • The second moment you remember is when you look into the eyes of this precious little one and you find something in place of the look of hurt pain and heartache. The windows of this little soul reflect a look of happiness, contentment, love, and acceptance.
Question; ask yourself is this sounds as if we are totally against fostering. We are not against anyone becoming a foster parent; however, what we are against is training you to do CPR on a bleeding patient. You are at risk by trying to help, by being a “Good Samaritan”.
Where are those that trained you, or your agency while you are administering CPR to this bleeding patient?  They are not at risk, you are!

Trainers are offering our foster parents minimal training to enter a lions den with little knowledge of the lion they are in the cage with. Trusting the micro information to protect you from the lion that you stand alone with, locked inside a cage is inadequate and dangerous to you and your family.

The world of fostering is changing and the MAPP training needs to change with it, this training needs updated, adapted to reflect the changes that have taken place in the fostering outlook since it was created so many years ago.

Please read our article MAPP & Beyond, with this quote from part 2 Windows of the soul;
We are not against fostering, we simply believe that it is imperative that foster parents receive honest training, that they are adequately equipped to foster prior to walking into what is a harshly realistic world. To do anything else is cruel and does not offer them the honor and respect they deserve.
MAPP & Beyond... Part 1 / Part 2 / Part 3 / Part 4 / Part 5 / Part 6 / Part 7 / Part 8 / Part 9 / Part 10.

One final comment; we are here for you, our foster parents. It is you who are on the front lines of the battle, a battle we want you to win. We urge you to seek all the training you can obtain from a relaible honest source. No matter where you locate this training make sure it is honest, realiable and the person who is training knows what they are talking about.
